KINGSPORT — A young Kingsport couple face charges of attempted child endangerment and other counts after a 2-year-old girl was found wandering in the street Thursday morning wearing a dirty diaper and no shoes or socks.
The child was found about 11:25 a.m. by Linda Lemons, a resident of Ingram Street. Lemons spotted the girl in the roadway while opening a window of her home.
Kingsport police scoured the area for hours, knocking on doors and asking nearby residents if they recognized the child. Police also conducted a reverse 911 call to homes in the vicinity, alerting people that a young girl had been found.
Eventually the girl was placed in the custody of the Department of Children’s Services.
Police said Megan Suthers, 21, 1804 Kite St., contacted the Kingsport Police Department at 2:47 p.m., stating her child was missing.
Police officers responded to the home to speak with Suthers. On arrival, police said marijuana residue was located inside the apartment.
