Give the gift of footwear
21.05.12
HOUGHTON -- The Mine Shaft in Houghton has teamed up with one very special nine-year-old in an effort to give shoes to people in need.
It is called Kenzie's Kicks for Kids and Mackenzie Switzer is asking for people to donate new or gently worn tennis shoes.
The shoes will be sent to an organization called Soles4Souls which has given over 300 million shoes to people in need.
“I saw this TV commercial where kids need help finding shoes so I wanted to donate shoes for my birthday instead of any presents," said Switzer.
If you drop off a pair of shoes at the mine shaft you can enter to win a free bowling certificate and a $5 game card or you can give a dollar to write your name on a shoe replica which will help with the shipping cost.
Makenzie and her mom have already received 15 pairs of shoes but they are looking for a lot more.
The drive ends Saturday, March 17.
