Silver Lake girls hoop can't dwell on missed chances

It was a season of what-ifs for the Silver Lake girls basketball team. What if they hadn’t lost three games by a single point? What if the roster hadn’t been decimated by a combination of injuries and illness? What if the Lady Lakers had shown more consistency on offense, hit timely free throws or handled defensive pressure more adroitly?
After a 2010-2011 season that ended with a Patriot League championship, the Silver Lake struggled to make the MIAA Division 2 tournament this year, finishing 11-9, and then were abruptly ousted in the opening round.
“It was kind of a roller-coaster ride,” long-time head coach Dick Steele said. “In all three of those games we lost by one point we had the lead and were at the foul line with less than 25 seconds to go. It would have been a different story if we won those games. One of those losses was to Duxbury. If we had won that game, we would have been playing them in the final week of the season for the league title.”
