These women and girls carry up to 20 litres of water on their heads or strapped to their backs for hours every day. This is approximately 6 – 8km.
Petrina Fielding from Quakers Hill is committed to walk in the shoes of poor women and girls to help break this cycle of poverty. She loves helping people and thinks the challenge would be a great way to do her part and also get fit at the same time.
CARE’s Walk In Her Shoes challenge asks participants to walk 10,000 steps per day from 12-18 March and get sponsored for their efforts. The Body Shop at Home and CARE have come together to organise the campaign and are hoping to raise a total of $200,000.
If together they can reach this goal they will be able to supply a village water pump for 80 communities, allowing them to be part of a movement that can change the lives of 24,000 people.
