Sunglasses?
Yes, if you are accustomed to quiet, neutral, understated colors in home decor, you'll need some shades when visiting the house at the bay end of Chester Avenue.
It starts with the outside of the Cape Cod house.
Yowza!
"It's the color of mac 'n cheese!" said the cheerful homeowner, Rev. Kendall Summers. I was thinking more "Van Gogh sunflowers" myself. Either way, the exterior color scheme is singularly unusual - and gorgeous.
The exterior, fiber cement, wood-grained HardiePlank siding is painted the color of cheddar cheese, accented with white trim and a dark red front door. The ceiling of the overhang shading the porch is a robin's egg blue. The wood plank porch floor is a pale gray. It's quite a contrast to the nautical-themed homes in the quiet Eastport neighborhood.
Lifting the latch on the gate to the white wooden picket fence, a visitor might encounter Sofie, the three-year-old black lab; Snoopy the nine-year-old beagle; and the cats, Grace, a Siamese, and Faith, an orange tabby with a belly flabbier than Santa's. Looking around, there is a spectacular garden blooming inside the fence, including a pair of pink and white flowering dogwood trees.
