Non-motorized bike track plan presented in West Milford
06.05.11
Information given in a presentation by Nicholson and the JORBA representatives was that there are no facilities for motorized vehicles being considered, the non-profit organization existed since 1999 and the nearest track for the local participants is at New Platz N.Y. where as many as 100 children attend practice and 150 are participants in the races.
A Pump Track is a continuous loop of rollers and insloped turns. Pump tracks can be ridden and enjoyed by cyclists of all ages and skills. The track gets its name from a method of propulsion the cyclist uses to navigate around the track without pedaling. The pumping motion requires use of both upper and lower body, making it a fitness activity, the presenters explained. There are no motorized vehicles allowed.
Nicholson said having a Pump Track in West Milford in addition to benefit the local family users also would attract family day visitors from north of Interstate Route 80 and south of Route 84 to come here and also patronize local businesses.
