KALAMAZOO – In the end, the use of his cellular phone and a receipt for his purchase of a pair of new, size 13 shoes at The Crossroads mall helped Kalamazoo police tie Roderique Rolark to the 2007 slaying of a longtime employee of a Stadium Drive laundromat .
That’s what Public Safety Detective Brian Beauchamp testified to last month before Kalamazoo County District Judge Vincent C. Westra issued a one-count warrant charging Rolark, 24, with one count of felony murder.
Rolark, who is being held in a Sacramento, Calif., jail and has waived extradition back to Michigan, is the cousin of Christopher Levitt, who was convicted of murder in Daniel McNeill’s Aug. 7, 2007, death and is serving life in prison.
McNeill, 59, had been stabbed several times and his throat had been cut when KDPS officers found him at about 4 a.m. on Aug. 7 inside Stadium Discount Coin Laundry and Cleaners, 3313 Stadium Drive. More than $700 was stolen from the business.
