How do I know when my Vasque Gore-Tex hiking/backpacking boots are broken in?

Recently, I bought a pair of Vasque Gore-Tex hiking/backpacking boots for my upcoming trip to Philmont, New Mexico for a Boy Scout trip. How do I know when they are broken in? I have been wearing them around town and the house for about 3 days.

Vasque is the boot that "allows you to slip them on and go," and requires very little break in time.

I had a pair of Sundowner and they hurt my feet, they feel a little tight or something. I only ride three days followed so far. Should I talk to them or just try a new boat? My old Vasque boots from 1979. Got them in college. They were my main hiking boots (resoled twice) until 1996 when I got some Raichle Eigers. Replaced those in 2001 with Scarpa Mantas. Then supplemented the Scarpas with La Sportiva Lhotses for winter in 2003. But I still like these for daily winter use and a hike up Monadnock now and then. Just replaced the laces with purple climbing rope.
