Should I wear boots or tennis shoes to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon?

I'm going to be hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in June. I'm worried that hiking boots will be too hot and heavy. Will tennis shoes do? If not, any sugggestions for type of boots?

Tennis shoes won't do. Use nothing less than a medium weight boot or a mid-hi trail shoe. The key is to keep your feet dry. Spray them with antiperspirant, then liners, then good thick socks. And carry spares.
