Suspect for home invasion arrested

A pair of muddy boots and some shoe-leather police work led to
the arrest Thursday of a suspect in a St. Charles home
invasion.
Levi David Reps, 19, of rural St. Charles was arrested at his home
about 4:30 Thursday afternoon on suspicion of breaking into a rural
St. Charles home early Tuesday morning.
Winona County Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude said a pair of Red Wing work
boots left at the scene ultimately led county investigators to
Reps.
Investigators took the warranty number on the boots to the company
and obtained a list of people who had purchased that type of boot,
Ganrude said.
Names on the list eventually led investigators to Reps' home, where
he admitted his involvement in the crime, Ganrude said.
Reps allegedly gained entrance to the home Tuesday morning by
cutting a basement window screen, then prying the window open. He
took off his boots and left them outside, along with a multitool
and pry bar, before entering the house, Ganrude said.
