Lancashire shoemaker Hotter Comfort Concept has invested £500,000 in new technology to increase capacity as it plans to open 13 more outlets by the end of the year.
Hotter, which has its headquarters in Skelmersdale, says it is enjoying buoyant sales after opening six stores in the south of England last year and launched two in Worthing and Sheffield this year.
The company is planning to introduce more shifts in its factory to boost manufacturing output to 1.6m pairs of shoes this year – up from 1.3m in 2010.
The investment will also see 100 new jobs created between now and the end of August across the business, including call centre, factory and warehouse staff.
John Andersen, operations director, said: “This investment in a computer controlled conveyor system and state-of-the-art robotic technology allows us to undertake precise engineering actions with pinpoint accuracy that cannot be replicated by the most experienced shoe maker.
“It means we can increase capacity, productivity and quality, reducing rejects and making our products more durable, which is fantastic news as demand for our footwear simply keeps on growing.
